bylaws and ODOJ

Posted by on Jan 3, 2014 in Blog

I’ve updated our bylaws based on the decision made during our last board meeting. We don’t have to submit the updated bylaws to the State until we submit our financial reports to the Oregon Department of Justice.

We received a copy of “A Guide to Non-Profit Board Service In Oregon” from the Oregon Department of Justice. The digital version is available on their web site. I’ve added to our Member on boarding page.

Our registration with the Charitable Activities Section of the Oregon Department of Justice has been processed successfully. We received confirmation from them on 11/22/2013. Our registration number is 46510.

Approval of our charter proposal

Posted by on Jan 2, 2014 in Blog

During their December 16th board meeting the Lowell School District held a public hearing on our charter school proposal. After the hearing the board voted to approve our charter school proposal. This is great news and we are now one step closer to opening up next September 🙂

Before the board meeting Walt asked me for confirmation that the grades served by our school would be kindergarten through eighth grade and if we would be willing changed the projected enrollment to 135 students which would give us 15 students for each grade. I confirmed that it would be K-8 and agreed to change the projected enrollment to 135 students.

501(c)(3) application

Posted by on Jan 2, 2014 in Blog

On 12/30 I sent in our 501(c)(3) application. This application registers us as a tax exempt organization with the IRS. The application and additional information sent in with it can be found at – IRS 1023 submitted packet. The documents contained in the application are located at:

I’ve updated the site, so that bulleted and number lists appear similarly to how they appear in Word. To do this I went to Appearance => Edit CSS in the WordPress admin and added the following to our custom css file:

article.post ol ol, article.page ol ol {
list-style-type: lower-alpha;
}
article.post ol ol ol, article.page ol ol ol {
list-style-type: lower-roman;
}
article.post ol ol ol ol, article.page ol ol ol ol {
list-style-type: decimal;
}
article.post ol ol ol ol ol, article.page ol ol ol ol ol {

article.post ul ul, article.page ul ul {

11/25 Lowell School Board Meeting

Posted by on Nov 27, 2013 in Blog

Laurie, Kelly, and I attended the school board meeting on Monday. They discussed their current plans for Lundy and the high school. They are going to proceed with a plan to replace the roof and windows in the west wing. They also discussed the toxicology and air quality report they received. The only item that came back was non toxic mold they believe is coming from the areas where the roof leaks.

A vote to approve the completeness of our charter school proposal took place. It was unanimously approved. While discussing the proposal Jim mentioned that he couldn’t access the web site and would like a copy of our proposed budget. I texted Jim’s daughter-in-law during the meeting and she said she would have Jim’s son visit him tomorrow and make sure he could get on the site. I have also emailed Jim a link to the proposed budget. Suzanne said she wanted a copy of our parent contract. I’m going to send this to her in the next day or two.

The date for the public forum has been set. It will take place on December 16th.
